Aslan

his naked body shook

as he lay on the table

of stone

not sure of his decision

but confident that he could not

turn back.

the girls’ muffled sobs were

the only evidence of pain-

the pain of the world

on his bare shoulders.

they wanted to look away

but they dared not

turn back.

the word, “dead,” hung in the void

hung in the air and would not leave,

but a bigger sound came

and pushed death out of the air,

made it

turn back.

the sound was of love,

of deeper magic

and time finally did

turn back.
